-Certain classes of elementary operations on the system matrix of a linear system are defined, and then their use IS illustrated for the calculation of canonical forms, the largest (A,B)-mvarmnt and controllablhty subspaces in ker(C), transmission zeros, and minimal inverses Questions of numerical accuracy are discussed The results are directly codable as efficient numerical algorithms, and may be extended to the use of orthogonal t ransformatmns 1 I N T R O D U C T I O N A NUMBER of algebrmc design methods and theoretical results for linear systems can be slmphfied by studylrrg the operations of hnear algebra reqmred for their algorithmic implementation In this paper a tableau method for the analysis and design of tlme-mvarlant hnear systems will be described The paper might well be summarized as an appllcatton of the 'systemmatrix' methods of Rosenbrock to the abstract algebrmc results of Wonham and others Tableau methods have the following desirable properties (a) The concepts and operations reqmred in a number of algebraic design algorithms are unified (b) Because the internal structure of hnear systems is very easily put m evidence, certain abstract proofs become s~mple or even transparent when concretized using a tableau *Recetved 1 December 1977, rewsed 28 June 1978, revised 24 January 1979 The original version of this paper was presented at the 4th IFAC Symposium on Mult ivanable Technological Systems which was held m Fredencton, New Brunswick, Canada during July 1977 The pubhshed Proceedings of this IFAC Meeting may be ordered from Pergamon Press L td , Headlngton Hill Hall, Oxford OX3 0BW, England This paper was recommended for pubhcatlon in revised form by associate edttor E J Davison tPor t lons of this work were performed while the author was on leave at the Laboratolre d 'Automat lque et d 'Analyse des Systemes du CNRS, Toulouse, France This research was supported by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada under grant A7380 :~Department of Electrical Engineering, Umvers~ty of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada N2L 3G1 (c) The method results m efficient, easily programmable numerical algorithms using the elementary operations of linear algebra (d) Certain questions of genermty and numerical stability are quickly answered for given system &mensmns (e) The method is &rectly extendable to timevarying index-variant systems The usual n-state, m-mput, p-output hnear system ~ x = A x + B u (S1)

Non-linear modeling, analysis, design and simulation of a solid state power amplifier based on GaN technology for Ku band microwave application

A new non-linear method for design and analysis of solid state power amplifiers is presented and applied to an aluminum gallium nitride, gallium nitride (AlGaN-GaN) high electron-mobility transistor (HEMTs) on silicon-carbide (SiC) substrate for Ku band (12.4 13.6 GHz) applications. With combining output power of 8 transistors, maximum output power of 46.3 dBm (42.6 W), PAE of 43% and linear ga...

Potentials of Evolving Linear Models in Tracking Control Design for Nonlinear Variable Structure Systems

Evolving models have found applications in many real world systems. In this paper, potentials of the Evolving Linear Models (ELMs) in tracking control design for nonlinear variable structure systems are introduced. At first, an ELM is introduced as a dynamic single input, single output (SISO) linear model whose parameters as well as dynamic orders of input and output signals can change through ...

Comparison of Different Linear Filter Design Methods for Handling Ocular Artifacts in Brain Computer Interface System

Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) record brain signals, analyze and translate them into control commands which are relayed to output devices that carry out desired actions. These systems do not use normal neuromuscular output pathways. Actually, the principal goal of BCI systems is to provide better life style for physically-challenged people which are suffered from cerebral palsy, amyotrophic l...

Multi-level Thrust Ripples Minimization of Linear Flux Switching Motors With Segmented Secondary by Combined Genetic Algorithm and Response Surface Methodology

Linear flux switching motors with simple passive segmented secondary, referred as Segmented Secondary Linear Flux Switching Motors (SSLFSMs), have low cost secondary and therefore are applicable to transportation systems like Maglev. However, it is shown that the SSLFSMs suffer from high thrust ripples. In this paper, minimizing SSLFSM thrust ripples besides maximizing its developed thrust are ...

New Optimal Observer Design Based on State Prediction for a Class of Non-linear Systems Through Approximation

This paper deals with the optimal state observer of non-linear systems based on a new strategy. Despite the development of state prediction in linear systems, state prediction for non-linear systems is still challenging. In this paper, to obtain a future estimation of the system states, initially Taylor series expansion of states in their receding horizons was achieved to any specified order an...
